Algebra is often the first mathematics subject that requires extensive abstract thinking, a challenging new skill for many students. Understanding algebra is a key for success in future mathematics courses, including geometry and calculus.

The goal of this course is to inspire students to practice algebraic thinking and relate that with symbols, equations, functions and graphs. With a strong foundation that is built from the previous Pre-Algebra courses, students will learn the overarching topics of Honors Algebra-1 common core standards through interesting and engaging lessons.

Students will analyze problems, apply quantitative reasoning and compare that against abstract thinking to convert them to algorithmic problems.

Concepts covered in this class include advanced topics in

- numerical operations, like fractional exponents.
- Functions – linear, quadratic, exponential, absolute and piecewise
- Polynomials
- Distribution(FOIL) & Factoring
- Different forms of quadratic equations
- Solving Quadratic Equations.

At the end part-1 and part-2 of this level, students may move to the Honors Geometry.
