Honors Chemistry is a course designed to train high school students in chemistry through intellectually engaging and highly interactive classes and original laboratory research. Chemical products are essentially present in our food, clothes and our day to day life. Environmentally acceptable solutions to pollution problems are only obtainable through a good understanding of chemistry. Chemical inquiry will lead to a better understanding of the behaviour of both natural and synthetic materials and to the discovery of new substances that will help future generations better supply their needs and deal with their problems.
The goal of this course is to inspire students to understand the basic laws of chemistry, the periodic system, their structure, interactions and the energy relationships. While the course will cover all topics the students will encounter during the school year, special focus is given to the harder concepts.
These 10-week 90-minute sessions include the following topics.
Weekly assignments will be given in order to help the students understand the material better and see what topics need further review. After this course students are ready to pursue AP Chemistry.
